VENUE: Carrow Road, Norwich , England
After a long international break Man City are finally back in Premier League action today as they travel down to Carrow Road to take on newly promoted Norwich City.
Pep Guardiola has been boosted by the return to fitness of John Stones, which should help avoid a selection crisis due to Aymeric Laporte’s long-term injury.
Gabriel Jesus is also available after recovering from a hamstring injury and Ilkay Gundogan is fit after missing Germany’s EURO 2020 qualifier victory over Northern Ireland due to illness.Benjamin Mendy is also finally nearing a return to action after months spent recovering from a knee injury.
Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference: “He’s good, he’s training now. I’m delighted because he has been training regularly with us for the last two weeks so hopefully in the next few games he can start to be part of the squad.
Aguero actually has eight goals in his five starts against the Canaries.
Norwich will be without defender Timm Klose for a lengthy spell after he sustained a knee injury during their Carabao Cup defeat at Crawley last month.
Meanwhile, midfielder Tom Trybull is set to be out for around six weeks with an ankle ligament injury and Norwich are also waiting on the fitness of Christoph Zimmerman. As for Manchester City, they will have to find a replacement for defender Aymeric Laporte, who is a long-term absentee after sustaining a knee injury during their win over Brighton.
However, they could welcome back Gabriel Jesus, who has been training with the first-team this week despite sustaining a hamstring injury in August.
Defenders Benjamin Mendy and John Stones have also returned to training so are also in contention to play this weekend.
Norwich are quicky learning the harsh realities of the Premier League and they face another tough test as the champions come to town.
Daniel Farke has injury concerns in defence as Zimmermann and Klose are both ruled out so he will be hoping Hanley can return from a knock.
Amadou deputised in central defence when he came on last time out and he will likely play there or for the injured Trybull in midfield.
Norwich have been hit by a string of injury setbacks ahead of the visit of champions Manchester City. Full-back Max Aarons (ankle) is set for a spell out following injury on international duty with England U21s, while fellow Young Lions defender Ben Godfrey will be assessed on a groin problem.
Goalkeeper Tim Krul (elbow) is also doubtful and on-loan City winger Patrick Roberts is not eligible to face his parent club. Midfielders Mario Vrancic and Moritz Leitner (both calf) are sidelined, along with Tom Trybull (ankle), while captain Christoph Zimmermann (foot), defender Timm Klose and winger Onel Hernandez (both knee) all continue their own rehabilitation.
Current Norwich City squad is:
