Espanyol vs Granada
Spain – La Liga
Start date: 01. Sep 2019, 22:00
Location: Cornella Venue: RCDE Stadium
Referee: Cesar Soto Grado, Spain
Espanyol have been kept busy with Europa League qualifiers in between their domestic campaign and have so far failed to pull off a match-winning worthy performance in the latter. The home team were at the losing end of a 2-0 scoreline in their opening matchup at home against Sevilla.
Their most recent matchup at home, however, saw them pick up their first point after they were held to a goalless draw on the road by Alaves.
Granada have made their way back into the top flight, but have not been able to deliver their fans a result to cheer about as of yet. Like their counterparts, they too have begun the new campaign with a defeat and a draw in the bag.
The visitors played out an eight-goal thriller with Villareal on the first matchday which saw four goals down each end but lost in the matchup soon after, against none other Sevilla who slotted an unanswered goal past them.
Although both teams are off to dismal starts in the season, home advantage gives Espanyol the slight upper hand in this one.
Espanyol Latest Team News
As it was already said, Espanyol players were not playing the football they wanted in the last pair of games against Sevilla and Alaves. Just before the match against Sevilla, they didn’t lose in 16 consecutive matches from the last season, through the preseason this year. That is an accomplishment for them. They have no injuries and are ready for this game. Three points now would be big for them. Can they make it? If they bring back that old form, it is possible. They need to score more and get things going.
Granada Latest Team News
Granada has started this season slowly, with just one point from two games. They did not continue their great form from the preseason, where they casually won against the likes of Sevilla, Las Palmas, Almeria etc… They will try to make a statement in this match, as they can be a tough team with a high potential for surprises. They have proved that in the first round like it was already said. Their best acquisition this summer was the famous Spaniard Roberto Soldado who will bring his experience in what it looks like a battle for the middle of the table and La Liga next year, too.
